Graveyard Keeper 2 opens a much larger part of the world than the original game did. In the final pre-launch devlog the developers said that in the first game "we showed you only a small part of this world", and that in the sequel "we're opening up a much larger part of it".

This page lists every confirmed location and explains the one travel change you need to know before you start: there is no Teleportstone.

Which locations are confirmed?

The list below comes directly from official devlogs and the store page. Anything not on it has not been announced.

LocationWhat is confirmed
Your graveyardOutside the city walls, "in a peaceful and beautiful area… near the Keeper's base"
The TownPlayable and restorable; dense, varied, layered over an older ancient city
The Town's southern outskirtsConfirmed as explorable
Another villageConfirmed
Another tavernConfirmed
Another forestConfirmed
Another swampConfirmed
Another churchConfirmed
Another graveyardConfirmed

The developers describe these places as "all different, yet somehow familiar, and all of them are created with love and filled with small details". They deliberately echo the original game's locations rather than replacing them.

You will also encounter traders bringing goods from foreign lands and refugees searching for new homes in the Town — with the joke that "even a zombie-infested Town can look attractive when the rent is low enough".

Why the graveyard is outside the walls

This is a small but deliberate design decision worth knowing. The developers said: "The Graveyard will be located in a peaceful and beautiful area outside the city walls, near the Keeper's base. Restoring the Town is one thing, but we're not monsters… we're not going to force you to live inside it."

Practically, that means your base and the Town are separate places, and travel between them is a real part of the loop rather than a menu transition.

No Teleportstone — use Milestones instead

This is the travel change most likely to trip up returning players.

The developers confirmed it plainly: "we decided there would be no Teleportstone. Plenty of players couldn't find it or figure out how to use it anyway."

The replacement is Milestones: "should you decide that you have already enjoyed enough walking, you'll be able to use Milestones to fast-travel between unlocked locations."

Three things follow:

  • Fast travel exists, but only between unlocked locations — you have to walk somewhere at least once.
  • The design intent is explicitly that you walk. "Instead, you'll be able to enjoy long walks through our carefully crafted world."
  • The world is now 3D, which the developers cite as a reason the walking is worth doing.

How Milestones are unlocked, how many there are, and whether they cost anything are all unconfirmed.

What the 3D world means for navigation

The original game was stylised pixel art. Graveyard Keeper 2 is built in full 3D behind a fixed camera angle, and the art devlog confirms several world systems that affect how the map reads:

  • A real day/night cycle with the sun "genuinely orbiting the Earth" and proper dynamic shadows at night.
  • Dynamic weather and wind, with forests and grass reacting as conditions change.
  • Deep volumetric fog, which the developers added specifically to give the world depth.

All of that makes the world more readable in some ways and less in others — fog and night genuinely reduce visibility, so plan travel with the clock in mind.

Is there an interactive map?

Not from us, and not yet. An interactive map is only useful when the coordinates in it are real, and no location data has been published. Rather than ship a map built on guesses, this wiki will publish one after launch testing.

In the meantime, the most useful preparation is to understand the confirmed area list above, and to read the resource locations guide for how to log what you find in your own game.

How the map relates to the other systems

Location is not separate from progression — the confirmed areas map onto the four stages of the walkthrough:

  • Your graveyard — stage one, the burial and harvesting loop.
  • The Town — stage three, reclamation and restoration.
  • Southern outskirts, village, forest, swamp — gathering, quests and expeditions.
  • Another church and graveyard — content whose purpose is unconfirmed.

Quests are described as running "throughout the city", so the Town is the denser quest space while the outskirts are the resource space. See the quest guide.

What is still unknown

Map size, area count, exact area names, landmark positions, Milestone count and unlock rules, whether there is a minimap or world map UI, and whether any area is locked behind story progress. All unconfirmed.

FAQ

Is Graveyard Keeper 2 open world?

It is a multi-area world with free travel between areas, not one seamless open map. Fast travel is via Milestones once locations are unlocked.

Can I fast travel from the start?

Unconfirmed. Milestones are confirmed, but not how early they become available.

Is the Town on the same map as the graveyard?

They are separate places. The graveyard is outside the city walls near your base; the Town is a distinct, dense hub.

Will there be an interactive map on this wiki?

Yes, once there is verified coordinate data to build it from. Not before.
